A Testimony of Healing
Brenda's Story
Trusting in God gave me faith, comfort, and healing during one of the most difficult seasons of my life.
On April 22, 2023, my life changed very quickly. I had been feeling extremely fatigued, and I knew something wasn’t right. I went to the emergency room, but I was so weak that my daughter had to call ahead so someone could help me get out of my truck and into the hospital.
On April 22, 2023, my life changed very quickly. I had been feeling extremely fatigued, and I knew something wasn’t right. I went to the emergency room, but I was so weak that my daughter had to call ahead so someone could help me get out of my truck and into the hospital.
Once the doctors began running tests, they quickly realized something was very wrong. My hemoglobin level was only 1.6—one of the lowest levels they had ever seen in someone who had not experienced trauma. The doctors were extremely concerned and immediately began more testing and scans.
They discovered that I had internal bleeding caused by a tumor. I was admitted into the ICU and began receiving blood transfusions. During my 10-day hospital stay, I received 19 blood transfusions. At times, they were afraid my body might go into shock. It was one of the most frightening experiences of my life.
Doctors began five days of radiation treatments in order to stop the bleeding. Eventually, they confirmed the diagnosis: stage 4 cancer.
Right after hearing that diagnosis, I made a decision. I refused to let fear or negative thoughts take control of my mind. Instead, I chose to trust God completely. Even when I was told the worst diagnosis, I believed God would carry me through and heal me.
One day, as I was being wheeled back to my hospital room after having testing done, I looked down the hallway and saw a pastor. He came to pray for me, and in that moment, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit so strongly. My heart was filled with comfort and peace, and I knew I was not alone. God was with me.
By the grace of God, the radiation stopped the bleeding. Over time, I went through 37 rounds of chemotherapy. It was a long and difficult journey, but my faith in God continued to grow stronger.
Every time I felt fear or uncertainty, I reminded myself of His promise in scripture: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” I read my morning devotionals and leaned on God’s Word daily. I even wrote a verse on my bedroom door that said: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” (Psalm 118:17). That verse became a reminder of my faith and hope in God.
Today, I am considered in remission with no evidence of disease. I was told I would be on chemo for the rest of my life, but it’s been over one year now, and I’ve been told there’s no more need for it! I truly feel like I have been born again.
God still performs miracles today! He works beyond what we can see or understand, and I truly believe His supernatural power gave me healing and protection. I am thankful to Him for bringing amazing doctors into my life who cared for me throughout this journey. Most of all, I thank God for His grace, His healing, and for never leaving my side.
