Groundskeeper’s job is to perform routine and extensive range of work in the general maintenance and upkeep of the facility grounds and grounds keeping equipment under general supervision. Grounds include those at Calvary Naperville, Calvary West at Sugar Grove, and Calvary Benton Street locations. They execute work within established procedures and process under both verbal and written instructions.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Mow all lawns and keep the grass neat and manicured. Replant, weed, and fertilize as required.
  • Maintain and plant flower beds and flower pots.
  • Edge and mulch flower beds and trees. Remove weeds from these areas.
  • Trim bushes and trees as necessary. Remove dead and dying bushes & trees. Replant as necessary.
  • Overall responsibility for snow removal, deicing and salting. Take lead of snow removal team, providing clear direction to team members.
  • Operate snow plow, salt spreader. Clean salt spreader as required.
  • Keep supervisor informed when purchases of mulch, salt, dirt, gravel are required.
  • Provide minor maintenance to all groundskeeping equipment such as oil changes and gas refills. Keep supervisor informed of all other equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain gravel access roads, fill potholes, etc.
  • Maintain equipment shed. Keep area and equipment clean and organized. Keep stocks supplied.
  • Deliver water truck when church events require.
  • Keep grounds free of garbage and litter.
  • Assist the team in other maintenance tasks as required.

Key Competencies
  • Ability to use various power and hand tools.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and small heavy machinery.
  • Should follow oral or written instructions.
  • Communicate efficiently and fluently in both written and oral form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.

Education and Experience
  • High school education or GED.
  • 2 years of on-the-job experience or other related experience
  • A valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds consistently with heavier weight necessary at times.
