In Week 1 of Generosity, Pastor Marty Sloan opens 2 Corinthians 8 and the example of the Macedonian churches, who gave themselves first to the Lord. Generosity does not start with us. It starts with God, who gave first by sending Jesus. Using passages from John, Philippians, Matthew, Acts and 1 Timothy, he shows how giving loosens the grip of the things we trust in place of God, and how what we release can bear fruit long after we are gone. We cannot live forever on this earth, but in Christ we can live beyond ourselves when we give beyond ourselves.
