Teachers shall be committed to living a biblical lifestyle and called by God to teach at Calvary Christian School.  They shall prayerfully help students learn attitudes, skills, and subject matter that will contribute to their development. CCS exists to provide, in partnership with home and church, a distinctive, Christ-centered education in a nurturing environment, which equips young people to excel in life and service to Jesus Christ. A teacher must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and have a teacher certification or a commitment to become certified. They are contracted for one year by the Head of School, and are expected to teach accelerated placement classes and an elective.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

• Reflect the purpose and mission of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and every activity, help students know God, achieve academic excellence, discover their purpose, and make a difference.
• Create engaging ELA and social studies lessons with a biblical worldview aligned with the Illinois State Standards.
• Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities. Comply with the Statement of Faith, Educational Philosophy and Objectives, the Christian Role Model Expectations
• Review the employee, staff relations, and parent handbooks, and be committed to upholding them.
• Follow school procedures and policies the Employer sets in administrative and educational matters. The teacher is responsible for ensuring these policies and procedures are carried out.
• Adhere to and fulfill all requirements and duties with regard to accreditation procedures and assignments, including, but not limited to, developing and updating scope and sequence and curriculum maps
• Grade examinations and quizzes
• Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.
• Cooperate with the Head of School and Executive Team in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the school's operation.
• Teach classes as assigned, following the prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled and approved by the Head of School.
• Demonstrate a commitment to excellent communication with parents and students to maintain the CCS standard of excellence in all areas of performance.
• For a positive learning environment, keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises.
• Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.
• Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the student's individual needs, interests, and abilities, challenging each to do his/her best work.
• Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional.
• Assess the learning of students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
• Maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress.
• Keep students, parents, and administration informed of progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure.
• Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, and administration.
• Attend and participate in scheduled devotional, in-service, retreats, committee, faculty, and parent meetings.
• Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature.
• Inform the Principal/Executive Team promptly if unable to fulfill any assigned duty.

• Be a "born-again" Christian who knows the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior (John 3:3, 1 Peter 1:23).
• Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and action toward others. This includes being committed to God’s Biblical standards for sexual conduct.
• Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose fundamental beliefs agree with this school's Statement of Faith (Hebrews 10:25).
• Have the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to “train up a child in the way he should go.”
• Must possess at least a bachelor's degree in education and State of Illinois HS licensure in the content area. Graduate degrees are desirable.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or higher from an accredited institution
• State of Illinois HS licensure in the content area
• 3-5 Years of teaching high school preferred
