Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing diversified duties related to building construction, plumbing and electrical work. Position will install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain the facility and the facilities equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of electrical, plumbing, maintenance, and carpentry functions.
  • Perform diversified duties to install and maintain the facility and the facilities equipment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs and perform scheduled maintenance repairs including, but not limited to, minor mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repairs.
  • Remodel interior walls and spaces to include electrical, plumbing and flooring.
  • Install new lighting and perform ballast replacements for existing emergency lighting and fire exits.
  • Perform maintenance on building generator, schedule required inspections.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
  • Servicing commercial kitchen appliances, and emergency equipment, reporting mechanical malfunctions to party for action.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Work with Fire Marshall, vendors, and inspectors.
  • Oversee larger building construction projects.
  • Assist department in snow removal and event setup and tear down.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.

  • Be familiar with commercial building techniques.
  • Be generally familiar with building schematic diagrams.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Welding knowledge is a bonus.
  • Work varying shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Work extended hours outside in varying weather conditions.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Operate various types of tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to climb ladders, operate and use “genie lift” to full capacity.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Education and Experience
  • Any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license
  • Completion of a craft apprenticeship is preferred but not necessary
  • 2+ years of on-the-job maintenance, handyman or other relative experience
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license required

Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds consistently with heavier weight necessary at times.
